Your suggestion of criminal activity is not warranted in any way. That is character assassination by innuendo. Not nice. It would be much more appropriate if you kept your conjecture to possibilities that are within the scope of legal activity. Kevin and the others have done nothing to deserve being subjected to this. Why don't we already have a company statement? These people left over a week ago, maybe a couple weeks ago. The lack of denail amounts to a confirmation that these people have left Linspire.
As I pointed out when we first heard the CEO is gone, people don't leave without notice for the reason we were given. We don't have a candid company statement, or any statement, because Linspire doesn't want to air their dirty laundry. People were far harsher on Linspire for making the MS deal than on Novell and Xandros. I think much of this has to do with the "personality" of Linspire. Linspire seeks to be part of the Linux community (Xandros doesn't try), but they aren't very open about things. I think Linspire is a great company that has done more good for Linux than most Linux distributors, but Linspire can't turn this into community support. RedHat and Novell would have reported the loss of these top execs (publically-traded companies are required to be more open). I suggest that Linspire give openess a try and see if it doesn't buy them some goodwill. You might have noticed, the public did find out that the CEO had left, just not from Linspire. |

But Harvey, you did write "somebody was cooking the books..." did you not? No that's not accusing anyone specifically, but it was a suggestion that someone at Linspire was invovled in wrong doing, possibly cooking the books. No problem with comprehension here. tom |

OK, to stay constructive here's another comment:
I'm a strong Linspire/Freespire supporter who has generally agreed with the direction that Kevin Carmony was going, though I could understand the criticisms. At this point all I am concerned about is the continued viability of a company I have put a lot of time into following and supporting. True, they owe nothing to me, not even information, but I think it's obvious that the health of the company demands SOME level of communication about the future path. Presumably they are working as feverishly on the company path as they are on releasing a working CNR, but I would think that some news on the company is quickly getting to be every bit as important a priority. |

I didn't forget it. Classic logic would tell us that simply because "cooking the books" is illegal or at the least unethical, that doesn't, of necessity, mean that the other "something" has be an illegal or unethical activity. However, classical logic is seldom taught in our schools today So, unfortunately many would read the specific statement as setting the tone for the more general statement.tom |

On a serious note, I will try to be reasonable. I had bought Linspire 5 and CNR, and even though 5V2 is good it is so out-of-date, and it has got to the point that on any recent PC's it has many foibles. I was prepared to wait for 6 until Easter so could use on AMD AM2 based PC's. Now AMD are releasing AMD2+ and I have no chance of getting 6 and CNR in the foreseeable future. Can you understand why I am antigonistic ? Being 5 months late and head rolling at Linspire HQ, has made me make a decission to leave Linspire and possibly even backing Linux and stick with XP at least by and large it does work. I do agree that M$ are seriously overpriced, but at least they gave me SP2 FREE and soon SP3. What have Linspire given me, preciously bugger-all in the last 18months. I am a "Newbie User" in most respects of linux, so Freespire is not for me! So yes I am skeptical and hacked off, but will try to moderate my responses, maybe I need Prozac ? |

Since your a newbie,I'd suggest you get freespire 1.0.13 or go with another very easy Linux, like Klikit.
I used Linspire 5.0 over a year and now use Freespire. Ive not moved to the latest and greatest of freespire... |

I agree with the two revs - rumor-mongering is destructive of the person because mud always sticks, whether or not it is justified.
The whole situation heads back to the poor communications from way back, the way I see it - the old mushroom syndrome perhaps ![]() imho as a company they have never understood that the users, particularly the insiders, have a need to be involved at a level higher than that of unpaid worker. I've made this point many times in other parts of these forums, and I'm not an orphan. There was a very good team at one time. I must say I wondered for a while about the Linspire Letter's demise - again nothing had been told to any of the troops. Oh well, chalk it up to more experience I guess Richard downunder
