So a wee bit before the COB, thanks, & I'm home. The d/l is finished and will start seeding in a few, soon as I finish writing the image.

Well I tried the install option... and I got a Kernel Panic...

Now I'm booting live and trying to invoke the installer manually... and the advanced installer has the 'Next' button missing at a crucial point.

You swines!

Where are the Network Settings? Cant seem to find them. Cant connect to the Internet. Is this a throw back to 4.5 for me again? Sure looks like there is a lot of Kubuntu in there IMHO.

read the release notes! there is no gui for network in this release. It's command line to get connected, like I am right now in live mode.

you seem to need to log out and back in before they show up but then you can choose a better font in FF

Yes the Release Notes are somewhat critical in using this version
Quote:
OK, how do I login to the LiveCD? What is the user & password?
One of my pet peeves, but ensured the solution was provided…
Quote:
Well I tried the install option... and I got a Kernel Panic...
Pls. provide the hardware details that resulted in the panic…
Quote:
Now I'm booting live and trying to invoke the installer manually... and the advanced installer has the 'Next' button missing at a crucial point.
Fairly sure that the issues is in the Release Notes (or soon will be), but just past the MBR selection to the next (hidden) selection, then hit enter…
Quote:
I can't change the display resolution...
Yup, 1024X768 on a wide-screen laptop is a waste of space
Quote:
Where are the Network Settings?
This is one of the packages that the developers hoped would be done by this Alpha, but porting the changes to the latest was slightly more difficult than anticipated (but expect something in a week or so)…

Hope everyone is having more success than not, and for those in the US have a Happy Thanksgiving…

It was an 'Unable to mount root' panic, so I don't know what was going on there. Anyway, I did a manual install with rsync, so I'm good to go now.

I'll try the install option again and take some details...

I'm glad Beryl and Emerald are working. No more nasty backports from me.

Since Network Setting & Profiles in the Control Center was an uncertainty, this was a requirement for the release (work out-of-the box for broadband wired connections)...

Great job so far guys. My wifi worked was detected i just have to run dhclient device to get it to grab ip. No biggie for me. Oh and just once had to tell it what essid to use. All worth it for a more reliable connection than even 1.0.13 could provide me at the time. My ATI hd ausio is better but still not right so can't wait for that improvement. For it to work and stay working right.

Hey Grump, you might try the nosquint settings for Firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2592/
Once you install it, you need to restart Firefox and go to Tools>NoSquint Settings to adjust the fonts to your liking.

Toshiba Tecra A20 w/ Centrino (Intel Pro 2200 Wireless) - botched. Onboard LAN works fine.

Tried downloading the IPW firmware and sources to compile, but the Alpha release apparently doesn't include kernel headers/source by default (?).

Also - receiving Public Key missing error from Sid repositories -

W: There are no public key available for the following key IDs:
A70DAF536070D3A1
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

(duh - this was received on initial [and all subsequent] apt-get runs].

Apt-get appears to function, albeit with autoacknowledged errors. Damned slow, but might be me.

WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
[insert package names]
Authentication warning overridden.

Kudos again to all for getting this out so early. Looking forward to playing with it.

David J.

P.S. Installed in about 12 minutes, which is on par with FS 1.0.13.

I think if you run this you'll get rid of that warning.
Code:
gpg --keyserver wwwkeys.eu.pgp.net --recv-keys A70DAF536070D3A1 && gpg --export A70DAF536070D3A1 | sudo apt-key add -
