Default Connecting to a networked printer.

A program (Network Magic) allows me to use the printer connected to my other PC while I am running WIN XP. This program is not Linux friendly so I was wondering if there is one similar to use when I am running Freespire 6.

Default Re: Connecting to a networked printer.

Try browsing the other printer in Konqueror. Use the File Management profile. In the location bar use smb://<ip-of-other-PC>. If the printer is shared on that, you should see it. I don't think you can install it via Konq but I might be wrong. Otherwise ..

Use the Run menu option. kdesu kcmshell printers and enter your password. Add a printer. I think the Printing system must be CUPS. Select SMB Shared Printer (Windows). Enter Userid then enter in the SMB details. You will need to select a suitable driver.

cheers

I think I have to get these 2 T23s networked first and don't know how this is done.
I used Network Magic when using Windows, but that software is not Linux friendly. If I can get a network going with Linux then, I think I may be able to "locate" the printer connected to the other PC. I am thinking that if the "other" PC is using Windows (which is always the case) then I won't be able to network from "mine" which usually uses Linspire 6.

You are using it (Network magic), but that software suite does not offer any more than windows itself does, except for the internet remote session (VPN) connection..

I got these same errors with that command, but it did start the kde printer control after a short delay..

Manual (static) network configuration, all computers/devices (printers) on the same network, preferably private (non-routed) to the internet, and the usual case

10.x.x.x
192.168.x.x
computer 1-->10.0.0.125
computer 2-->10.0.0.126
Printer 1------>10.0.0.80
Printer 2------>10.0.0.81

If you use a router (with a LAN switch, built-in) or external, then you can also get to the internet without using any sharing software for windows like ics (Internet connection sharing) or Linux (nat (Network Addresss translation/forwarding), host/gateway))

Other options
