Congratulations!!! Question: does the above mean that if we are running FS 2.0 that we can safely do our distupgrade this time??

Have a great evening!

Use Freespire 2.0 Stable Sources (includes Additional Sources, commenting out the security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu feisty-security main restricted universe multiverse)...

The issue pointing to ubuntu repositories is resolved using the updated sources.list, so there is no issue of bringing in packages incompatible with the OS, but dist-upgrade is not the preferred method of ensuring you have all the latest packages...

Just insert a # sign before those lines (you can verify using sudo apt-get update)...

Will this changes also be in Linspire 6.1 RETAIL, and if so do this mean the late September release has slipped into October ?? some 3 months after selling 6.0 OEM as RETAIL to customers ??

I used apt-get yesterday. It seemed like everything upgraded ok. cnr-client is at the right version number ( 0.1.2600).

When I click on Help Center/Additional Support Options/OS Version,
Freespire 2.0.0 is displayed not 2.0.3. Minor bug I guess, or is it
just my system?

That's why using apt to upgrade the version is not the preferred method (some packages/files might not get updated)...

hey Team.. Congrats.
I am really excited about the CNR Plugin above everything else.
not that Symatic is bad anything.. but I want CNR..

Also does Deviant Art, and Virtual Box work in CNR?

If I change the source.list in Linspire 6.0 OEM to this:

deb http://apt2.freespire.org/ubuntu/ feisty main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://apt2.freespire.org/ubuntu/ feisty main restricted universe multiverse

## Major bug fix updates produced after the final release of the

deb-src http://apt2.freespire.org/ubuntu/ feisty-security main restricted universe multiverse

# If you enable these, you may get packages which do not work with

Would this be the correct source.list for Linspire 6.0 OEM that wont crash the system if I do

No Dr. Jones also said the security ubuntu needs to be taken out.

Dr Jones will carefully answer, but I have been using
Code:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
--With the Ubuntu security updates, and there has been no problem,of course dist-upgrade does want to replace the Freespire kernel (update), and also remove foss-oss controls
--but sudo apt-get upgrade, seems safe on its own (unless you switch to cnr updates), then you will likely only use cnr for upgrades, updates..

Nope... the ubuntu sources have been commented out and apt2.freespire.org/ubuntu/ feisty-security sources have also been added...

No, its just not been a particular problem, though I did have the usual Kcontrol missing from menus on one of the updates, I did have to reinstall nvidia-glx
--other than those minor issues, it has been fine

I only have not done a dist-upgrade, excepting for a few times, I have avoided that since the kcontrol went missing, and I do see that the low-latency kernel would be upgraded via ubuntu, by using sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and it would also remove the forward oss-control
Quote:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Password:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
forward-oss-kernel-module-2.6.20-16-lowlatency forward-oss-utils
The following packages will be upgraded:
linux-image-2.6.20-16-lowlatency
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 23.8MB of archives.
After unpacking 574kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
I don't think I want to mess the system, as it is running at the moment, with nvidia dri working and some applications I have already installed..
--so I will probably be adding Freespire 2.0.3 to a spare hard drive and see how that goes..

If I did mess with it, and then reinstalled forward-oss, I guess would probably be OK, even with the ubuntu security repositores enabled..
--but it will be easier on me, and safer if I don't..

I have Freespire 2.0 humming along nicely. Do I really want to do this upgrade? (Plus, Elinux helped me do a kernel upgrade...not sure if this'll get messed up)

Also, I'm a bit lost. Sources? comment out? My apologies. I don't know where to begin. It sounds easy enough, but what's the first step?

Commander and Dr. Jones, thanks. Funnily, I already upgraded the CNR client through Synaptic without having to update Freespire. So, I guess I'm okay? I have an upgraded CNR but not Freespire 2.0.3.
