I tried to connect with my wireless card (MSI: pc60g) chipset rt2561st and it detected it but kept crashing. I disabled it and tried connecting with the ethernet and it wouldn't connect. So I removed the wireless card to see if I could connect with the ethernet port that way. It shows active but will not connect. My mother board is a gigabyte K8NS with a socket 754 athlon 3000 cpu. I am fairly new to Linux. I didn't have any problems connecting with the ealier versions. I am running Freespire 2. I have cable internet and a linksys WR54G router.

You need to install the rt2500 support package. This will install the utility and driver.
sudo apt-get install rt2500 or just search for rt2500 via adept-manager

when I put my pci wireless card in I can't get a connection with the ethernet port. I tried disabling the wireless and it still won't connect till I remove the pci card. I have a duel boot on this computer. The wireless works fine on XP. Do I need to load the correct driver first? and then install the wireless card?

Sir just want to share what i observed so far with regards to wireless and ethernet connection. Normally, I use my wireless connection to connect to my local area network and internet but occasionally I prefer to use my ethernet cable (hardwire) connection for faster transfer of huge files (several gigs) from my laptop to the my server. When i plugged in my ethernet cable connection it automatically be my active connection and sort of disabling my wireless. I have not seen/used both wireless and ethernet simultaneously. Corrections are welcome ![]() |

I have seen this also. When doing large volume files my wireless pcmia card causes "locking up" of my laptop so I will plug in directly and it will use the RJ45 over the wireless., which is good I guess.

I used the rj45 connection to update and hopefully get it where I can use it wireless. I don't have room for it in a place close to the router. I am running freespire 2. It seems nice but is useless to me unless I can get the wireless working. When it tries to connect it gets to 28% where it freezes and sometimes crashes. This is not my main computer. Thanks for your replies.
