Thunderbird dosen't open browser when a link is selected. Firefox is my default browser. I have used the GCONF EDITOR, and added "launch-firefox %s", and that doesn't work, This has happened since I upgraded to linspire V.2. Is there any other suggestions, I'm also relatively new to Linux.

When you click on an HTML link , regardless of what E-mail client you use, your computer first reds the extension of the link (whiich would be .html), then goes to your File Associations module to see what browser is set to read .html. YOu can go to File Associations yourself and set .html to whatever browser you want.
In the File Associations menu -- Known types . + text > html , search in applications list for the browser you want , click APPLY , then Okay .

Yes, this works for me. Originally I had html file clicks opening Firefox , but I preferred to open Konqueror which is faster, and I removed Firefox from the File associations.

Well, it doesn't work for me. Everything is set up to open in Firefox or WebBrowser. When I click on an email link, i get the X dialog box asking me which program I want to launch.
All I want to do is launch yahoo email when I click on an email link on a web page.
If it's not possible for yahoo to work, then I'll settle for Thunderbird launching. Then, at least i can cut and paste the email link into whatever app I choose.:)

RickI had the same problem as you. And I tried everything -- changing default application selector, moving Firefox to the top of the list in file associations -- nothing fixed it.
This is what I did to fix it, both in Linspire 5V2 and Freespire:
1. Open TB Config: Edit --> Preferences . Click on the "Advanced" tab. Then click on the "Config Editor" button, lower-right corner.http://edge06.net/images/misc/tbird_config1.png
2. After opening the config editor, type network.protocol in the "Filter" box.
3. Ensure the string network.protocol-handler.app.http has a value of x-www-browser (double-click to change; click "OK" to close). Repeat for the https string. Then close the config editor and the Preferences window.http://edge06.net/images/misc/tbird_config2.png
3. Modify the default web browser in a console as root. (NOTE: The path may be different on Linspire so be sure to use the proper path. Also, this affects all users.)update-alternatives --set x-www-browser /usr/bin/firefox

4. You could do a quick restart (if you long for the M$ way ;) ) but I didn't have to in order for it to work.
5. Test it out -- should open Firefox instead of whatever browser is currently opening..
Good luck -- hope it works for you.

All I want to do is launch yahoo email when I click on an email link on a web page.I'm pretty sure you can do it, but you would need to create a script that would launch Firefox (to the URL mail.yahoo.com). Unfortunately, I'm not real good at scripting but you could probably Google it.

@ ernieg92;
This used to work but with the "upgrade" of Thunderbird to 2.0.0.0- now apparently called "Mail/News" preferentially - it no longer does. There isn't even network.protocol-handler.app.http available in the config any longer! Has anyone looked at this problem and been able to solve it with the new Thunderbird 2.0.0.0????
Thanks in advance to anyone who's got this figured out!

ZeusDad, I don't know if you're still working this problem after this many months, but just in case you are, yes there's an easy solution. You can add those lines to the config editor yourself. Works perfectly. Funny thing. I'm revisiting this thread because I recently had to re-install Linspire and my lmail application, which is based on Tbird but better, and now have the same problem again. Glad I found this.
