My modem i was using with rogers blew up, so I went searchign on ebay.

i recieved the modem. everything works fine on it.

I hooked it up to the cable where i usually did, and all the lights lit up on the modem. I thought everything was working fine.

I went up to my laptop and the internet wouldnt work. I ran back downstairs and looked at the modem. on the top it says "designed by comcast". That made me quite angry. im guessing they put a money hogging block somewhere in the modem so i couldnt use it on my rogers internet.

is there anyway i can use this modem with a rogers connection? help is greatly appreciated. thnx.

If you are a legitimate Rogers customer, and the Roger's modem blew up. they will send you a replacement, since they are only renting it to you as a subscriber at $xx.xx per month.

Sometimes you just have to be tricky with a customer service rep (CSR), they represent their company, not you -->the customer.

The quickest method.
Have your modem connected, the one that seems to have the lights ON
Call Rogers, tell them your Roger's modem isn't working anymore, can they check it. See what they say
--if they can do any remote testing/setups (remote login to your router)..
If that doesn't work, ask them what the settings are supposed to be for the rogers modem, and how do I check that ?
--the web page of their customized router. If Rogers gives you their IP addresses and any defaults, try them out on your modem/router, it is a router I hope, not just a cable modem

They will probably be able to determine that it is not their own Comcast unit
--then you say,
Sorry! someone came over and brought their own modem, and I didn't notice before I called you. However my Rogers modem had blown up before my friend arrived, he/she was testing it for me.

Can you tell me what settings the modem is supposed to have on its web page interface, can I use the web page interface to check it ?

Try those steps, it may get you somewhere

The trouble is for Rogers or Bell (Sympatico) in Canada. they both only want you to rent their modem/routers and don't sell any. nevertheless see this..

Additionally
Rogers does throttle communications

In contrast, some of Rogers' competitors have opened up on the traffic shaping issue - Bell recently advised customers that it may engage in network management to address excessive bandwidth use.

I am a rogers customer as well and I find that when I am downloading from some sites my speed is very slow. Is there a good utility that will show in real time, my date rate up and down? Something that will sit in the tray?
